Networking Protocol Notes
-
Some SICL and VISA operations are not supported when using the VXI-11 protocol. For more information, see the Keysight VISA Help or the Keysight SICL Help.

You can access the VISA, VISA.NET, VISA COM, Keysight 488, and SICL documentation by selecting Documentation from the IO Control (select the
icon on your taskbar ).
-
A single LAN interface configured for Auto protocol can be used to connect to multiple LAN servers that support different protocols.
-
You can configure more than one LAN interface and choose a different default protocol for each. Add devices to the appropriate LAN interface depending on the protocol you wish to use with each, then use the VISA address (shown in Connection Expert) in each SICL iopen call or VISA viOpen call of your program: these VISA addresses contain the correct interface names and will map to the appropriate protocol usage. (You can also create VISA aliases for these devices, with identical results.) See the Keysight VISA Help or the Keysight SICL Help for details on how to create communications sessions over LAN using each of these protocols.
-
When using the SICL-LAN protocol, the SICL interface ID is programmable and can be any unique string of alphanumeric characters, starting with a letter. The SICL-LAN protocol can be used with any of the GPIB, serial, USB and VXI interfaces. See Edit LAN Interfaces for information on setting the protocol.
-
When using the VXI-11 protocol, you must use the default SICL interface ID. The VXI-11 protocol does not support serial or USB interfaces and can be used only for GPIB and VXI interfaces. See Edit LAN Interfaces for information on setting the protocol.
