Specify a Remote License Server

To tell your Keysight product where to get its floating (network) licenses, find the Specify a Remote License Server dialog box as follows:

  1. In PathWave Desktop Edition, click , then click Licenses and Support.
  2. Choose Add License, then Specify a Remote License Server.

In the Specify a Remote License Server dialog box:

  1. The drop-down Choose Products list shows all licensed Keysight products installed on your machine. Select (check) the products that need to use the new license server(s). For each product, if license servers are already configured, they are listed underneath the product in the drop-down list. Note that the new server(s) you are specifying will replace any currently specified remote servers, so if you want to continue to use the servers listed in the drop-down and add a new server for the same product(s), you need to include ALL the servers (including those listed in the drop-down) in the Step 2 box.
  2. Type the port_number@host_name of each server. If you have more than one server, separate them with commas. Some examples are:

    27009@156.140.133.23
    27009@server1.example.com
    27009@server1.example.com,27000@server2.example.com,27000@server3.example.com
    @server1.example.com (not recommended)

You can get the port number and host name from your license server administrator (the sysadmin who set up and/or maintains your license server).

    • The port is typically 27009. It is included in the SERVER line of each license file on the server.
    • If your license server runs Windows, you can find its host name by going to Control Panel > System > Full computer name.
    • If your license server runs Linux, use one of the following commands:
      • hostname
      • hostnamectl
      • cat /proc/sys/kernel/hostname

In all ordinary circumstances, you should always specify the port number along with the host name, as shown above. If for some reason you need to specify a host name without a port, you still must include the @ symbol (for example, @server1.example.com).
  3. Click Verify Connection and Save to complete your setup.

To clear current settings — that is, to remove all servers from the license search path so your Keysight products will no longer get licenses from those servers — select the desired product(s) in Step 1, delete the current server from the text box in Step 2 (leaving the text box empty), and click Verify Connection and Save.

NOTE

If a license server is down or is known to be slow, it is recommended that you remove it from your list of specified servers to avoid any performance degradation.
